It
is said that at every instance in life there is a lesson, if
only u want to learn.., at every step there is caution if only u
want to stop and circumspect.., at every dawn, a responsibility,
a duty, which may shape the course of future things ..,
Let us take a deep sigh before it is too late to look back, let us start with something which we all can relate very easily ...
Unless you have been living in a deep cave you should've known about
the Indian cricket team's defeat at the hands of the relatively weaker side Zimbabwe, in the recently concluded World Cup. What was
worse was only to follow,
the ignominious ouster of the Indian team from the most prestigious tournament of the game.
No, this article is not about criticizing the Indian team for its apathy and lack of application,
it is not about harping at the vagaries of the Indian cricket selectors or the lack of coordination in the team. It tries
to focus at the undue responsibility and the monumental expectations , 900million plus
people have put on fifteen mortals to lead their hopes and realize their dreams, It is about the
undue eruption of sentiments it has forced on the followers. It is about the lessons the Indo-Zimbabwe contest has to
offer in our day-to-day life.
In what could be termed as the loudest outcry of the cricket lovers, the defeat was met with widespread criticism and
unbridled cynicism. The wrath showed by zillions of us would have been with lot of merit if we have fulfilled
our own responsibilities with impeccable diligence.
Agreed that cricket occupies an inseparable part in an average Indian's life,
that however does not justify the diversion from an individuals duties. How many students throwed their books away to have a peek at their
favourite cricketing heroes to excel at the game and wanted to be right their when they lead their side to the victory ? How many
employees neglected their jobs or slackened the pace at work to keep abreast with the rapidly changing fortunes in each and
every game ? How many more people lightened their pockets and loosened their financial commitments just to be there hoping and
to get the best return of their money by seeking victory to their team ? And how many more of them disrupted their delightful routines and in
turn their duties to catch up with the timezones and the scores ?
Why was this happening ? Why did we accord so much attention and hype to the event tresspassing our individual responsibilities ?
Sports are a much closer and pragrmatic form of entertainment a test of human stamina and skill, a
demostration of collaborative team-work, an exhibition of expeditious judgement and unrelenting grit under extenuating circumstances. It is
perfectly natural to find our alter-ego's in the form of our sporting heroes to manifest and satisfy our inner desire of winning a battle.
The wrath which the cricket lovers have shown on India at their defeat with Zimbabwe is not without its demerits.
There is an old adage which goes something like 'If you point one finger at someone, four of the fingers will actually
be pointing towards you'.
* If you've been outperformed by someone at your job or if you let that deadline of your project slip by, let me assert you that you are little
different from the Indian tail-ender(s) who throwed his(their) wicket(s) away to defeat with little forethought and prudence whatsoever
* If you are a student and missed that one question which would've got you a better grade or a better score, you are no different from the
irresponsible straying of the Indian bowlers have committed which not only let them earn instant shame but also a disgrace for their team
* If you are a kid and feel you have given a deaf-ear to the sermon your parents, friends have been giving, you my friend are no different from the
irresponsible Indian batsman who despite being warned commits the same mistake and opens the doors for his teams defeat
* If you are a parent and you found that your child is straying from the path you expected him to stay but never spoke to him about, you are no
different from the listless Indian runner at the bowler's end who kept watching his partners come and throw away their wickets where common-sense
demanded he went to them, advised or admonished accordingly
* If you have let down your own friend caught in your world and ignoring him, then you are no different from the phlegmatic Indian team who
should've given their bereaved teammate who himself was headed home to attend his personal tragedy, a much better homage
So, if you do not belong to any of those categories mentioned, then you my friend are the man. You have the sole right to scathe the Indian
team for failing to serve their duty, because you did not fail in yours. It is not to praise the Indian team's defeat or to laud its rather
impassive submission to its opponent, but just to take this occasion to assess how good are we in performing in our responsibilities.
Each one of us should weigh our own efforts in our responsibilities first before raising that critical finger to point at someone for failing in
their duties. Each one of us have to realize the gravity of each responsibility entrusted on us, be it be at work-place, be it at home or be it be as a
citizen of a nation for, each responsibility you fail to realize or each duty you miss today, may change the
future course of your life very dramatically tomorrow...
Let us take this opportunity to delve into our live's, our responsibilities, our commitments and assess how good we are keeping them up and
let none of us not regret like the Indian Cricket team which rues now at their stupidest irresponsibility against Zimbabwe which might
haunt them for years to come! |
